Moorfield Group and Plus Shops Retail have agreed a deal with Premiere Cinemas to re-open the five-screen cinema at Cardiff’s Capitol Shopping Centre.
The new 755 seater multi-screen cinema will feature state of the art projection equipment and have a licensed bar.
Premiere Cinemas has taken the former ODEON cinema - which closed in 2001 - on a 25 year lease and will open in December following a £1 million refurbishment.
Premiere Cinemas currently operates in Romford, Kings Lynn and Worthing.
This latest announcement builds on other recent leisure lettings at the centre including easyGym, Caffe Nero and Pret a Manger. Moorfield and Plus Shops Retail have also agreed a new 3 year lease with anchor tenant H & M and further lettings with Poundworld, Taking Shape, Muskaan Beauty, MDA Eye Clinic, Nutrition Hub and Euro Gallery.
Mark Holmes of Moorfield, the investment and asset manager of MREF which owns the shopping centre, said: “It has been our aspiration for some time to re-open the cinema at Capitol and enhance the leisure offer at the centre. We are delighted that Premiere Cinemas will be up and running by Christmas.”
Paul Jervis of Premiere Cinemas adds, “It is with enormous pleasure that we are to open a site in Cardiff and we hope to emulate the success we have enjoyed elsewhere. We pride ourselves on offering a more personal service and viewing experience than other operators whilst also incorporating great value. We have the very latest cinema technology, with Sony 4K digital projectors and Dolby surround sound plus our range of drinks and snacks are priced competitively.”
Kitchen La Frenais Morgan and EJ Hales acted for MREF. PDJ Cinemas were unrepresented.
